Metanoia, Day 2: Confession

Part 2 of a ten-day journey. The full series is also available as one combined guide.
Admitting our sins is the first step to freedom.
Confession isn't reading off a list of wrongs like a grocery list. It's humility. We come before God raw and real and say, "I've messed up. I need Your grace."
Proverbs 28:13: "Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy."
This isn't about beating yourself up. It's about opening up to God's healing light.
Why confess
Confession breaks the chains of guilt and shame.
It's like turning the lights on in a dark room. Suddenly you see the clutter, but now you can clean it up.
1 John 1:9 promises: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
How to confess
Start the day with a heart check. Sit quietly and let the Holy Spirit guide you. Ask: where have I fallen short? Impatience, gossip, neglecting time with God?
Write it down or say it out loud. Then pray:
- Acknowledge your sin to God.
- Ask for forgiveness with genuine sorrow.
- Ask for His strength to avoid it again.
The healing starts
After confession, peace washes over you. The weight lifts.
But confession isn't one-and-done. It's a way of life. Every day we come back to God, ready to be made new.
Confess to each other, too
We always confess to God. Sharing with a trusted brother or sister in Christ can be freeing too.
James 5:16: "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed."
Today
- Confess your sins to God.
- Find accountability in your community.
- Accept the freedom of being known and loved by God.
