Metanoia, Day 4: Scripture as Your Roadmap
By Richard K. Marshall · Originally published
Part 4 of a ten-day journey. The full series is also available as one combined guide.
Scripture is your roadmap for change.
The Bible isn't just a book. It's a living guide.
2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
It leads you, step by step, toward becoming more like Christ.
Go deep
- Read daily. Even one verse. Let it sink in.
- Meditate. Don't just read. Chew on it. Psalm 1:2 speaks of delighting in the law of the Lord and meditating on it day and night.
- Apply it. How does this verse change your view or your actions today?
Wisdom and strength
The Bible isn't just do's and don'ts. It's wisdom for every situation.
Proverbs 4:7: "The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding."
And strength: "I can do all this through him who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:13).
Let it shape you
- Renew your mind. Romans 12:2 calls us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
- Do what it says. James 1:22 challenges us to be doers of the word, not just hearers.
A practical approach
- Pick a reading plan that fits your pace, and stick with it.
- Journal what you learn and how you sense God speaking.
- Share insights with others. Talking about Scripture deepens it.
Today's challenge
Spend time in a passage that speaks to something you're working on. As you read, ask: what is God saying to me here, and how can I apply it?
What we soak in shapes our thoughts and actions. Keep the Bible off the shelf and in your heart.
Next: Day 5, One Small Step.
