Metanoia, Day 7: Reflection and Journaling
By Richard K. Marshall · Originally published
Part 7 of a ten-day journey. The full series is also available as one combined guide.
Look back, so you can see where God has moved.
We've covered prayer, Scripture, confession, listening, small steps and forgiveness. Now look back over the week.
Reflection isn't patting yourself on the back. It's seeing where God has been at work, and where He's leading next.
What changed?
- Self-awareness. Any shifts in your attitudes, behavior or thoughts?
- Spiritual growth. Where did you feel closer to God?
- Relationships. How have forgiveness and patience changed how you deal with people?
Change can be subtle. It's there if you look.
Lamentations 3:40: "Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord."
Journal the journey
A journal is breadcrumbs for your future self. Not just events, but God's work in your life.
- Daily insights from Scripture or prayer
- An honest inventory of feelings, struggles and victories
- God's whispers: the moments you felt Him speak or guide
Getting started:
- Choose a format: notebook, digital note or voice recording.
- Make it routine, daily or weekly.
- Be honest. It's a conversation with yourself and God.
Today's challenge
- Review what you wrote or thought about each day this week.
- Acknowledge the changes. Celebrate small wins and learn from the hard parts.
- Plan what you'll focus on next.
Your story of transformation is being written every day. It's worth writing down.
Next: Day 8, Community.
